Our Community Partner of 2019 is Second Presbyterian Church. Members from Second Presbyterian have been involved with Exodus since January 2018. They helped Exodus welcome one of our largest families that we have resettled – a family of 12 from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The team consists of 39 members who have gone above and beyond to welcome the Sikabwe family. They helped furnish and set up the family’s new home, and welcomed the family at the airport. They have showed them around the city and have taken them to Indy Eleven games. They have been a part of new births and marriages, and have played a key role in helping the family adjust to their new life in Indianapolis.
The kindness that members from Second Presbyterian have shown the family is unmeasurable. We cannot do this work alone, and our faith partners like Second Presbyterian have become the leaders and voices of welcome under an Administration that is unwelcoming and inhumane towards the refugee and immigrant community. Thank you Second Presbyterian for opening up your hearts to one of our refugee families and for demonstrating what it means to truly love our neighbors.
