Ways to Support Refugees on World Refugee Day

Saturday, June 20, 2020 is World Refugee Day, a time when we honor the courage and resilience of refugees–recognizing the hardships they have faced, the new lives they have created, and the positive impact they have on our communities. In honor of World Refugee Day, you can stand in solidarity with refugees worldwide and show your love and support for refugees who now call Indiana home. Here are five ways to show your support:

1. Become a monthly donor.

Your gift of $10, $25, or $50 every month adds up to a big impact for refugee families. Your on-going financial support provides vital services such as mental health counseling, employment support, and youth and family case management. Prefer to make a one-time donation? You can do that too! Donate now.

2. Raise money for Exodus.

Encourage your friends and family to give to Exodus by creating a Facebook fundraiser or come up with a creative way to raise money for refugee families in Indiana.

3. Show your support with Refugees Welcome t-shirt.

Show your support with a “Refugees Welcome Here” t-shirt. We have adult, youth, and toddler sizes.  All shirts are $20 each + $5 shipping if you’d like us to mail your order. You can purchase your shirts here. Already purchased a t-shirt? Share a photo of you wearing your t-shirt on social media and tag us!

4. Learn more about refugees and asylees.

Education is key to being a better advocate. Stay connected with Exodus during this time of social distancing by reading books, listening to podcasts, or watching a movie or documentary about refugees and asylees.

5. Support local immigrant owned restaurants.

Order takeout or dine-in at an authentic restaurant in the International Marketplace area. You can enjoy a delicious Ethiopian/Eritrean meal at Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant, a Middle Eastern meal at Al-Rayan Restaurant or more. You can check out a list of the restaurants located in the Lafayette Rd area here.
