Employment Readiness and Placement

Employment is the primary conduit to promoting refugee self-sufficiency and adjustment to life in the US. Employment readiness and job placement services through Exodus include individualized mapping of employment goals and skills, orientation to the American workplace and cultural values, introduction to the public transportation system, resume writing, interview prepping, and placement in full or part-time employment.

Exodus' orientation to the U.S. workplace and job readiness courses cover topics including how to find a job, applications and interviews, employer expectations, time management, proper hygiene, punctuality, and American verbal and non-verbal communication styles.

Employment readiness and placement services are available to all refugees, asylees, certified victims of human trafficking, and parolees in Indiana during their first five years of arrival or status.

Exodus operates a minibus and a van transporting clients to and from work in the early stages of their employment. In 2010 Exodus was awarded an Indygo JARC grant to purchase a second minibus. Transportation is offered to those clients whose work is not accessible via public transportation. Those clients who work in areas that can be accessed by Indygo are trained on how to ride the bus and also provided with bus tickets when needed.
