“Buoys in the Water” Boundaries Session: April 2023

“Buoys in the Water” Boundaries Session

One of Exodus’ greatest values and measures of success is the self-sufficiency of our clients. Volunteers have a huge role in this journey. Like a line of buoys in the water, the boundary lines of how volunteers support clients versus the support clients really need ebbs and flows on the seas of self-sufficiency. But, sometimes, whether it be from an extravagant request from a client or an exaggerated attempt of a volunteer trying to help, the buoy lines can get cut. It becomes difficult to find where the volunteer’s need to help ends and the client’s responsibility to live begins.

This discussion group is designed to honor volunteers for their altruism, but then to teach how to go about it in such a way that clients can take ownership of their lives. Any volunteer who has completed the Reflection Form and is assigned to an individual opportunity is welcome to participate, no matter which opportunity it is*. Please join us to enjoy great discussion on what it looks like to be an effective volunteer!

*Those who are on a Welcome Team or Community Support Team will have their own type of Boundaries Training. Please speak with Kris George, the Community Sponsorship Coordinator, at kgeorge@exodusrefugee.org for additional details.

This opportunity is for those who have:

  1. Completed the Exodus Volunteer Application.
  2. Watched the Refugee 101 video, and
  3. Filled out the required Reflection Form.

If you have completed these requirements but have yet to receive the link for this month’s session, please feel free to reach out to Jericho Jones at jjones@exodusrefugee.org.
