What is a sponsoring partner?

  • Sponsorship is a working partnership between a local religious or community organization and Exodus to provide resettlement services to a refugee family. We are called to welcome the stranger and believe that both our refugee families and our sponsors benefit from being involved with each other in this effort to extend and receive hospitality. We are happy to work with you to discover how your church or community group can become involved in refugee resettlement. Exodus can provide training to sponsorship groups, and we are available during the sponsorship to provide backup, advice, and resources when you need them.

    Refugee Resettlement Plan

To sponsor a refugee a group should strongly consider developing a refugee settlement plan with Exodus [Refugee Immigration] which outlines how the group plans to:

    • find secure housing and home furnishings
    • meet refugees on arrival
    • locate an interpreter if required
    • find a family physician
    • plan for medical emergencies
    • assist with applications for Social Security and other forms for assistance
    • provide initial supplies of food and clothing
    • help children enroll in school
    • make child care arrangements
    • find language training
    • assist in finding employment
    • arrange transportation to appointments
    • help with banking/financial management
