  • Reception and Placement

Our primary goal for our clients is that they attain self-sufficiency within six months through our guidance and that of our volunteers. The best way that we can help them achieve this is to provide them with the tools and information they need to live and work in the United States. With this in mind, our resettlement services assist new arrivals with the day to day tasks involved in establishing themselves in the United States and their local community. In addition to supplying our clients with immediate needs such as housing, food, and seasonal clothing, we provide guidance, transportation, and translator services that allow them to navigate the countless appointments with they must complete before beginning to look for employment. These include securing temporary assistance from welfare, applying for social security cards, completing health screenings, registering and preparing children for school, and securing follow-up medical appointments as needed. Cultural orientation programs are also useful in providing new refugee arrivals with additional information on our school system, financing higher education, banking, and human rights in the United States.

Our small staff is heavily dependent on volunteers to help us provide these important services to the hundreds of refugees that are resettled by our office each year. We are so thankful to the many people who volunteer their time to these families, helping with transportation, English-language education, orientation, and translation services and encourage anyone interested in getting involved as a volunteer to contact our office. Volunteering at Exodus can also be the beginning of a career in social services.
